Flos Lamps

In 1962, Flos was founded by Dino Gavina and Cesare Cassina in Merano Italy with the production of classic lamps, some of these models are still produced today. The company is currently headquartered in Bovezzo, Italy. Flos produces a wide range of floor lamps, table lamps, wall lights, pendants and outdoor lights for both private and commercial use.

From the beginning, Flos has been characterised by a very high quality approach to lamp design and production. Many of their vast back catalogue of lamps designed for the company, first by Achille Castiglioni and his brother Piergiacomo Castiglioni, are arguably some of the best known and most successful products in industrial design.

More about Flos and their lamps

Flos has won countless awards and international recognition for their designs, their lamps are displayed in design museums and exhibitions all over the world. In the 1980s, Flos attracted emerging new design talent. In 1988 Flos started collaborating with Philippe Starck. This collaboration has yielded a wealth of successes and Phillippe Starck continues to work with Flos to develop new products, including the Ara lamp, the Romeo Moon series and the Cicatrice De Luxe chandelier. In the 1990s, Flos produced the Rosy Angelis, Romeo Moon and Archimoon series, which were also all designed by Philippe Starck.

One of Flo's successes from the 10s is the elegant and expressive IC lamp. The lamp was designed by Michael Anastassiades, who started his collaboration with Flos in 2014. The inspiration for the beautiful and bold IC lamps came from a video of a juggler balancing balls on his arms and hands. Designers have recreated that magical moment when the juggler perfectly balances the ball on his fingertip with the spherical lampshade that balances perfectly on the lamp's slender stand.

Throughout the 1990s, Flos has been flanked by a range of products from new designers. This reflects the desire of Flos to keep and discover the most talented designers to maintain its leadership in innovation. Flos started producing the Glo-ball lamps by Jasper Morrison in 1998. Flos lamps are characterised by the fact that they fit into most homes with their beautiful details such as mouth-blown glass shades and elegant shade effects.

In the late 90s, the collaboration between brothers Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec started. They made their breakthrough in the late 2000s when they designed the popular Aim lamp for Flos. They are known for having a very experimental approach to design, which is also reflected in the design of the Aim Pendant. The simple lamp is created with the idea of steplessly adjusting the height of the light. The result, with the minimalist lampshade and looping cable, not only provides freedom in lighting, but also adds a sculptural and decorative object to the lighting.

Miss K and Ktribe from Phillippe Starck

One of the most recognisable lamps from Phillippe Starck is without a doubt Miss K table lamp. His interpretation of the traditional silhouette of the table lamp has an elegant and eye-catching look. Thanks to the semi-transparent plastic material, you can see the lamp's diffuser through the shade, giving the lamp a distinctive look. The lamp is equipped with a transparent cord that gives Miss K a complete look.

Phillippe Strack once said at a presentation: "You can't leave two Miss K lamps alone together - they just multiply"*. As a further development of the Miss K lamp, we have the beautiful KTribe series. KTribe is a whole series of lamps that have the same characteristic shade as Miss K, only combined with a foot, base or stand in timeless aluminium. The stylish lamp is available as a table lamp, pendant, floor lamp and wall light, all of which add a pleasant and striking light to the room.

Other talented designers followed, including Jasper Morrison, Marc Newson, Antonio Citterio, Marcello Ziliani, Marcel Wanders, Piero Lissoni, Rodolfo Dordoni, Joris Laarman, Knud Holscher, Johanna Grawunder and Patricia Urquiola.

When you buy a Flos lamp, you not only get lighting, but also modern lighting art. The philosophy at Flos is that the lamps should be both provocative and innovative, but still maintain the basic and fundamental principles of design. Flos can therefore present a large selection of iconic lamps that change the whole concept of lighting. Finally, many of the lamps from Flos are functional with light sources of more than the traditional 40-60W, so they can do more than just create cosy lighting, which is an important quality that is in demand in many places both in business and private life.

Glo-ball lamps by Jasper Morrison

The simple yet stylish Glo Ball series was designed by Jasper Morrison in 1998. The lamp has references to the simple lamp fixtures of the 60s/70s that were found in almost every home. The round glass shade has once again become a hit in modern interior design - not only because of its minimalist look, but especially because of the increased focus on proper lighting in the home.

Opal glass screens are known and loved for the diffused light they emit into the room. No matter which glo-ball lamp you integrate into your interior design, you get a lamp that emits light 360 degrees into the surroundings. In other words, it not only provides light over the dining table or in the sofa corner, but contributes to the overall lighting of the entire room.
