Bulbs
Which bulb should you choose? The possibilities are endless and it can be difficult to navigate the wide range of different types, shapes and colours. Is it to light up a bathroom, is it to be used in the living room for cosy lighting, or is it perhaps to be used over the dining table? Light bulbs for lamps
Finding the right light bulb is not always easy. The different terms to look at when choosing a light bulb are often confused. That's why we have our guide to light bulbs, but we'd like to summarise some terms below.
If you're looking for a bulb because the old one has blown, you should start by checking which socket the old bulb had. The classic screw-in bulbs are generally available in two different sizes; large and small sockets. The big ones are called E27 and the small ones are called E14. E-bulbs are the classic bulbs that most people have probably tried to screw in or out of a lamp. They are also named after the great inventor Edison, just like our mascot!
G bulbs are typically attached with some kind of clip and are far less common than E bulbs. They are popularly called pin bulbs.
GU bulbs are a more recent invention and are typically found in spotlights, where their two legs are lowered and rotated about 20 degrees to fix them in a kind of bayonet mount. The GU bulb is designed to sit in downward hanging lamps and the number following GU is the distance between the two legs of the bulb.
T bulbs are the last bulb type we'll cover here. T5 is a fluorescent lamp and requires a luminaire that can support it.
Colour reproduction
When talking about light bulbs, it's important to be aware of the terms Ra or CRI, which indicate how well the light from a bulb reproduces colours. Normal daylight is 100 Ra and therefore reproduces colours perfectly. In an LED bulb, Ra is usually between 80 and 95, which means that the colour rendering can be very close to what you see in real light. In an ordinary home, you should choose an Ra of at least 80 so that the colours are nice and the light is as it should be.
LED Bulbs
LED bulbs are very popular and for good reason. The light of an LED bulb is actually measured in lumens and not in watts, as with other bulbs. The following applies as a rule of thumb for watt converted to lumen:
15W = 140 lumens 25W = 250 lumens 40W = 470 lumens 60W = 800Lumen 75W = 1050 lumens 100W =1520 lumens
An LED bulb is very economical and uses very little power. We have LED bulbs from Colors, DuraLamp, e3light, GN, Philips, Tala.

There are many lamps today where the bulb is visible and is almost as much a part of the lamp's appearance as the lamp itself. Philips Hue - bulbs of the future
Philips has collaborated with Apple to design Philips Hue, which can be described as the light of the future. Here you can download an app and, together with the specially developed bulbs, you can set and control your light just the way you want it, with endless possibilities among 16 million different colours.
This is a major breakthrough in light bulb development, as it is now possible to adjust brightness with just the right bulb, whereas before you needed a dimmer and timer. You can also use Philips Hue as a burglary prevention measure, as you can set the lights to switch on and off at different times and in different rooms when you are not at home.
