KAISER idell 6631 table lamp launches in a special edition
A design movement that has left its mark on design history will mark its 100th anniversary in 2019. Fritz Hansen is marking this with a special edition of a design classic. Read on to learn more about what the Bauhaus movement was and how it relates to the KAISER idell lamp and Fritz Hansen.
Bauhaus Design - a landmark cultural movement
The Bauhaus movement, active from 1919-1933, had a turbulent time with 3 directors and 3 locations. But despite this, the movement has left its mark on design and architecture. Bauhaus was a school that brought together everything in design and production in one building. The school was founded by Walter Gropius who had a vision:
"Art and craft should merge. The artist must also be a craftsman".
The Bauhaus school became a landmark cultural movement of the 20th century, introducing the world to functionalism. This had a decisive impact on architecture well into the 20th century and to a large extent even today. The idea behind Bauhaus was to focus on function, function should show itself in form. The hallmark of Bauhaus design was and is; clean lines, simple shapes, and simple colours that together create a clean expression.

A classic from the Bauhaus period
The KAISER idell lamp series originates from the Bauhaus school in Germany and combines the idea behind the school. The focus had to be on function, and craftsmanship had to merge with design. KAISER idell lights are a true testament to this. As a tribute to this period, Fritz Hansen has launched the famous KAISER idell Luxus table lamp in a brass version. The brass version has been launched as a special edition to mark the 100th anniversary of the Bauhaus movement. The special edition of model 6631 table lamp is untreated brass, which means that it will patent over time, giving it a unique patina that makes each lamp completely unique.
The iconic KAISER idell table lamp is built around a patented ball joint that gives the lamp a good and strong function. The table lamp is especially recognisable by its very distinctive shade, which provides a perfect light output, making it the perfect desk lamp - or as a stylish design icon in the interior. "ORIGINAL KAISER idell" is embossed on the top of the lampshade.
Christian Dell designed the first KAISER idell lamp back in 1936, when it first appeared in a catalogue. The lamp quickly became the protagonist of the entire KAISER idell series. A lamp that even today symbolises noble and Germanic design.
Christian Dell - a big part of the Bauhaus movement
Christian Dell is one of the protagonists of the Bauhaus period, where he headed the Bauhaus metal workshop from 1922-1925. He was a recognised German designer with a background in silversmithing. With great attention to detail - perhaps due to his background as a silversmith - he has managed to design a lamp series that is still relevant in interior design today.
